SOUTHWICK — Students returned to Powder Mill School Wednesday morning after a burst pipe caused the school day to be canceled Tuesday, as officials continue to assess the damage.

In a letter to the school community Tuesday afternoon, Principal Erin Carrier said that a pipe that burst in the sixth grade hallway caused flooding in the fifth and sixth grade hallways.

“Originally this was thought to be a leak in the roof, but further inspection revealed it to be a burst pipe in the sixth grade hallway,” said Carrier, “In the coming days restoration experts and safety experts will be evaluating the damage and working to determine next steps for the affected areas.”
